The Mission

“that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed…with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness—That to secure these Rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just Powers from the Consent of the Governed.”

Thomas Jefferson.

The Declaration of Independence has been described as the most important document in human history.

We the People.  Most powerful three words spoken by any form of government.  Simply put, we share collective responsibility for our collective future. A uniquely free nation based on democratic ideals and personal liberty.

Andre Block and Jonathan Williams are two men of different backgrounds, faith, political learnings, and skin color. Two men; two backgrounds; two political leanings; coming together to promote love and the acceptance of all.

Having met on New Year’s 2015, they both realized that they share one unique passion for the same thing; the love of long-distance cycling.

In May of 2015, Andre set out on a cross-country trip he called “The Karma Ride.” He traversed from Knoxville, TN to Los Angeles and touched countless people along the way. The Karma ride was dedicated to raising funds and awareness for Lupus. Although Jonathan was all set to join Andre for the Karma ride, he, however, had to back out at the last minute. Nevertheless, he followed the ride via social media. Andre’s trip encouraged and inspired Jonathan to do his own ride in 2016. Taking up the challenge, Jonathan stood up to the task in May. He took off from Oceanside, CA up the Pacific Coast Highway to Seattle, then over to New Port Beach, CA. Both trips were totally life changing and left each man with a strong desire to do it again.

Then in November 2016, the Unity Ride was born.

In 2015 and 2016, we connected with and inspired a bunch of people. Our goal for the Unity Ride is basically to display the undying love that exists in our country. Also, we want to make people realize that we have within us, a bond that unites us more than we will ever know.

We are two people cycling across America and proving to this combined nation that although we share many differences, we are very similar. The goal of our documentary series is multi-faceted. We live in a beautiful country with amazing scenery, and we aim to show it off. There are a lot of beautiful and inspiring people in this country. We will tell the stories of the interesting and fascinating people we meet along the way.

Cycling 3,000 miles in 30 days is hard! From long climbs up the Rockies, and the short steep climb up the Ozarks and Appalachia, to the long and boring cornfields in Kansas. The journey will be long and challenging, but we are prepared to do what it takes to achieve a course that we so much believe in.

Even though it seems as if we are divided as a nation because of our differences in divergent things, we strive to see beyond these things. Yes, we have our differences in politics and religion and those differences are tearing us apart. Our goal is, however, to show that we are not as divided as we seem. And to prove that no matter our differences, we are all a part of the puzzle that completes our nation.

The Unity Team.
